A little teaser for NUDE MOMENTS. Translation and editing are nearly complete.. time for the letterers to make it all pretty! In the meantime, I’ll be submitting the cover copy (as seen below):

Well it’s been an EXTREMELY quiet few weeks, and (when it comes to our first book), I haven’t done a darn thing.
I believe the translation for NUDE MOMENTS is complete (and has been for a few weeks), but our translator wanted to edit it a bit before sending it to me. I’m not sure if this is good or bad, but I let her know not to do TOO much, because that was my job.
Holiday Grinch!
The holidays aren’t complete unless I have a GIANT frown on my face! I put on a show for the family, but for the most part, I dislike the holiday season. Without getting too deep and philosophical on you, let’s just say commercialism, “have-to’s” and the lack of local immediate family, make my heart two sizes too-small.
Manga Journey - Episode 3, Beefy!
As I mentioned in my last post, this week lacked a whole lot of ‘meat’ which one would normally use to grill up some om nom nommy content. Keep that in mind when you watch this weeks episode of Manga Journey.
Sound FX and Life
Well, this past week FLEW by, and there was lots accomplished. Unfortunately the majority of productive time was for the day job, and not so much for the extracurricular.
Translation of ‘Nude Moments’ is still underway, and although I had expected that part to be complete by now, I’m not too worried about it. I spoke to the translator earlier in the week and she only had 18 pages left.

Lost in the Weekend
Here I sit, ripping a copy of “Lost in Translation” onto my iMac (legally purchased by moi TYVM), eyes burning, head pounding, yet I’m strangely satisfied.
It’s been one hell of a crazy weekend (aren’t they all) and I’m FINALLY uploading this week’s episode(s) of Manga Journey to Youtube. It’s getting to the point where Saturday and Sunday’s seem more ‘work-like’ than my weekdays. But not work in a BAD way as much as work in a ‘getting shit done’ sort of way.
Down Time
This week has been quiet. Too quiet. Well, I say too quiet because my job as editor hasn’t really started yet. I know for a fact, however, that our translator has been translating, and the typesetters have been cleaning up the pages for ‘Nude Moments’.
Remember the word we couldn’t figure out from the book? The one that was cut off when scanned? Well getting assistance figuring out was much easier than I had anticipated. A quick email to the production staff at DMG was all it took. In less than 24 hours we had our missing word: このパターン・・・ (konopataan | ‘this pattern’) - nothing like we thought. Certainly not a sound effect ^^;.
I’ve just downloaded my main website, to begin another redesign. I’ve come to a point where I don’t have a lot of time to spend generating content (which is depressing, because that’s really what I want to do.) In order to make it easier (and more enjoyable), I need to take some of the ‘have too’s’ out of blogging. Like, ‘have to’ add a picture formated like so, and ‘have to’ manually add SEO tags. I need to be able to post from anywhere at any time (phone included) without my readers seeing a difference on the front end. And, quite frankly, the site is ugly. When I think of an enjoyable website, I think of clean lines, appropriate (subdued) colors, and readability. Right now, TheMadPoppet.com has none of that. She shall be fixed!

SFX Overload!
At some point last week, I determined that I didn’t know squat about Japanese sound effects in manga. I mean - I’ve seen them plenty of times, but they are (almost) always accompanied by english subtitles.
Well damnit, that has to change. What happens if our translator accidentally misses some SFX? I mean, it’s possible right? Or what if her translation of one doesn’t fit with the context? It’s completely plausible - most of these onomatopoeias aren’t self explanatory (to me anyhow.)
So now, whenever I read a volume of manga, I’ve decided to jot down any sound effect I didn’t know. I had no idea what I was in for.

Tonight was the first time I’ve put this into practice - and holy freakin’ crap there are a lot of them! Below are just a few of the ones I found.. and I honestly didn’t write them all down. (It started to impact my reading!!)
